All-Ireland Secondary Schools Finals

120 school children from all over Ireland will travel to Cork tomorrow for the All Ireland Secondary School Championships. Having worked all year to qualify through their respective provinces, this caps a successful year at schools level for all the players/coaches involved. Now playing for National titles, all players will be geared up for a major challenge.

In 2009, the tournament was dominated by 2010 hosts Colaiste Choilm, taking 3 of the 6 National titles on offer - a remarkable achievement. They will look to defend their titles, Under 18 Boys and Girls and Under 15 Boys. With some of the country’s top talent within their ranks – Edel O’Reilly and Declan O’Brien have both had excellent seasons – they are sure to be in contention. Also back to defend their title are St Angela’s in the Under 15 Girls and Ballyroan in the Under 13 Boys. Throughout the event, there are some tight match-ups. In the Under 15 Boys, St Fintans of Sutton with players such as Conor Beades and Ryan Farrell will look to take on their hosts, while in the Under 18’s, Blackrock College have a strong squad also.

Best of luck to all of the schools taking part – click here for full squad listings.

2010 Host School

Colaiste Choilm, Ballincollig will host the All Ireland Schools Team Finals on Tueday 27th April 2010. We are most grateful to the Principal and Staff of Colaiste Choilm for allowing us to use this magnificent Sports Hall, and especially Vice Principal, Ms Cait Breathnach and school coach Ivan Shorten, for all their help in arranging the day. The school recently won the "Active School" Flag Award in 2009, the first post-primary school in Ireland to do so.
