All Ireland: Primary Schools

Wednesday 4th May brings one of the most rewarding events on the Irish domestic calendar, the All Ireland Primary Schools Finals, featuring a mix of Ireland’s best and youngest table tennis talents. This year’s event will be hosted by the Ulster Branch and has been organised by Ulster School's Secretary Mr.Tony Phillips. Seven schools will participate for the Boys and Girls Team Titles, with some making journeys the length of the country to participate.

The Boys Finals has a full entry of four teams, with a representative from each province. The qualifying school from the host provincial Branch is Kilcoan Primary School from Islandmagee.  From Leinster, Gaelscoil Ui Fhiaich make their debut appearance in this tournament - featuring a number of players who have played in the STIGA Challenger Series as well as provincial and national events, the Kildare school has some very talented young players including Donie Mullally and Evin McGovern.  St.Teresa’s NS provide the representative team from Connacht, again with some very talented players such as Daragh Egan and Martin Williams. Lissagriffin make the long trek to Down from Skibbereen – the school has been subject of recent ITTAWeb focus for its excellent participation work.

In the Girls Finals, three provinces are represented, Manulla NS from Castlebar, Guardian Angels NS featuring Irish International Katie McGlone and Carryduff Primary School which has Rebecca Finn as their leading player. Again, a close competition is expected, but a great day out will be had for all under the watchful eye of Tournament Referee Tony Phillips.

All in all, it makes for a very interesting competition – best of luck to all schools involved.
