Ballybough Youth Project

Ballybough Youth Project is just one of the new clubs that the ITTA is supporting in the Dublin region. It caters for local youths aged between 10 and 21 by offering after school activities to interested young people. A number of sports are available but table tennis is proving to be a favourite among the members.

Weekly coaching sessions are funded through the Women in Sport (WIS) initiative and even in the short few weeks that the project has been running the youngsters have come on leaps and bounds.  Project Leader Sandra Moore agrees, “A number of players were complete beginners when they first signed up.  John Bowe (ITTA Coach) has been doing a lot work with them on the basic strokes and the progress made by a number of players in such a short time has been incredible. The kids are really enthusiastic. They also attend on Thursday afternoons to practice the skills learned earlier in the week”.

The players from Ballybough are eager to start entering tournaments and are looking forward to the STIGA Junior Challenger Finals on May 21st in Gormanston College. In preparation for this a team from Ballybough recently travelled to St. Andrew’s Youth Project, Gloucester Street (another WIS funded project) and to Eastpoint TTC to practice their skills against tougher opposition.
