The Munster Branch of the ITTA has today announced details of the 2010 STIGA Munster Open. This event is one of the most prestigious on the Irish domestic calendar, with events for all age categories and abilities.
Sponsored by STIGA, The Echo Newspaper and The Clarion Hotel Group, this year's Munster Open takes place from
Friday 22nd- Sunday 24th January, 2010 in the Parochial Hall, Knockfree Ave, Gurranabraher, Cork.
The 2010 Munster Open has been re-invigorated by the Munster Branch with a huge amount of behind-the-scenes activity taking place to ensure a successful event for all. New features this season include:
- Significant increase in prize money from last season
- Under 10 event which will be free of charge.
- Event Programme available
The Branch has also teamed up with 5 hotels in the proximity of the hall, these hotels not only have given us special rates for the players but have also helped enhance the prize money. The Munster branch would encourage participants and spectators, coaches etc to use one of our endorsed hotels. A full list of these 5 hotels is available with the entry form.
Last season's Munster Open Senior Men's title was won by local favourite and international stalwart Brian Fitzgerald, with Sam Hanley claiming Runner-Up. Welsh woman Naomi Owen took the Women's Senior title back to Wales with a fine win. This season will see an even larger entry is anticipated
Speaking at the launch of the event, Munster Branch Chairman Anthony Redmond stated:
"I would like to thank and recognise all the personnel in Munster for pulling together to hopefully make this an excellent event. In the times we are now living in, the sponsorship support we have received from hotels and businesses have been an integral part of being able to provided greatly enhanced prize money. I would encourage all participants to please travel to the event and specially people who have been out of the game for a little while - this could be your come back!!!"
