Connacht Senior & Junior Open: Event Preview & Groups

The Irish domestic circuit returns this weekend as 151 competitors of all ages gather for this seasons edition of the Connacht Senior & Junior Open. Once again, the popular Breaffy House resort in Mayo will play host to what promises to be an excellent event for all involved.

In total, 19 events will be played out over the 3 days play, make it a busy schedule for players, coaches and officials alike!

Leading the line-up over the weekend will be the showpiece Mens and Ladies Singles events. On the Mens side, the event has been boosted by the entry of top ranked male player and current National Champion Gavin Maguire. Gavin is sure to come in to the event as heavy favourite, but he will no doubt be pushed by International team-mate Ryan Farrell and the ever improving Ballincollig man Alan Walsh. Keep an eye out too for top juniors Dylan Grace and Charlie Fitzgerald amongst many other young guns. 

On the Ladies side, the seeding is topped by Ulsters Rebecca Finn, while a strong top four is completed by exciting young prospect Mia O'Rahilly Egan, the ever present Sabina Devereaux and the former long standing Ladies number 1, Katie McGlone. With the addition of the dangerous Zofia Wawrzyniak in the mix, the Ladies singles looks set to go down to the wire!

While the Seniors will be vying for those precious ranking points on offer, the same will be the case for the Junior players who are making the trip to Castlebar, as the 6 main junior categories will be settled over Saturday and Sunday. It is the last opportunity for players to improve on their position before the National Championships in March, so there certainly promises to be fireworks throughout.
