Draw Made for Season Opener

The eagerly awaited Senior table tennis domestic season kicks off this weekend with the Senior Classification Qualifier and Main event. Entries have soared this year, with over 100 players registered for the event. The ITTA Events Committee has made the draw for the event and announced full details of the tournament format. Play begins in IWA, Clontarf at 0930 on both days. This year's Classification is a very open event in both the Mens and Womens sections.

Drawn in Group A, much focus will be on the form of Gavin Maguire and John Murphy(pictured here in the new Butterfly National Team Shirt), 2 senior internationals who produced a fantastic match in lat year's National Senior Championships. Group B will also be an intriguing one, with many of Ireland's top Juniors drawn together. Who will emerge from a group that included Hanley, McCreery and Robinson, all of whom took part in the recent European Youth Championships? They will have a difficult task in progressing past the experienced Brian Fitzgerald and Ulsterman Peter Graham. In the Qualifying event, it is so difficult to predict who will progress from the 70+ entry, but no doubt the likes of John Bowe, Robbie Gavin and Corey O'Rourke will fancy their chances.

In the Women's event, most observers will be keen to see whether Rita Kacsandi can continue her domination of the ranking list or will she be usurped by one of the young Irish internationals- Mogey, Nelson and Givan will all look to challenge. With dangerous players such as Fiona Dennett and Sabina Devereux lurking in the Qualifying event, this event is sure to go to the wire.
