Eligibility Criteria for the All Ireland Schools Competitions

Eligibility Criteria for the All Ireland Schools Competitions

The issue of the eligibility criteria for the All Ireland Primary Schools Competition was raised by the Munster Branch in April. At that time, the Events Unit responded to the Branch query advising that there would be no change to the eligibility criteria for the current season, as it would not be practicable or fair to effect changes mid-season. However, the Unit did agree to review the position and clarify the eligibility criteria to ensure that anomalies did not arise in relation to this important event in the School’s calendar.

Having received submissions and reviewed the criteria for the All Ireland Primary and Secondary Schools competitions, the Events Unit has agreed the following ;

The eligibility criteria for the 2016 All Ireland Primary Schools event will be as follows ;

- Players must be born on or after the 1st January 2003;

- Players must be students in 6th class or below (plus NI equivalent).

This will allow players up to the age of 13 years and 4mths to compete when the event takes place in April-16.

The Events Unit agree that the specification of the age criteria in this manner will ensure that there is absolute clarity regarding eligibility, and should ensure that the majority of all 6th class primary students are eligible to participate in this event.

The eligibility criteria for the three age categories in the 2016 All Ireland Secondary Schools event will be as follows ;

- Minor Category: Players born on or after 1st January 2002;

- Junior Category: Players born on or after 1st January 2000;

- Senior Category: Players born on or after 1st January 1996;

- Players must be students of the respective secondary school (or NI equivalent).

It will be the responsibility of individual schools to ensure that all players representing their respective school are eligible under the above criteria.

Schools must confirm eligibility, and submit the details of all players representing their school on the entry forms provided to the Office of Table Tennis Ireland by the designated closing date.

Please contact the Table Tennis Ireland Office if you have any questions in relation to the AIS Competitions.
