Knight Late Call-up for England

English table tennis sensation Darius Knight has been added to the England team for this weekend's Senior 6 Nations Championships to be held in DCU, Glasnevin, Dublin. Knight is a late call-up for the injured David McBeath and is a real star attraction. A member of the Great Britain Olympic squad for London 2012, Knight has just recently finished his impressive career as a Junior. Highlights include:

2006 European Youth Championships
Runner-Up (Boy's Doubles), Gold (Team Event)

2007 European Youth Championships
Gold (Team Event)

2008 European Youth Championships (Terni, ITALY)
Semi-final (Singles), Gold (Boy's Doubles)

2008 World Junior Championships (Madrid, SPAIN)
Silver (Singles), Gold (Doubles)

Darius Knight finished his U18 career in December 2008, during which he reached a peak World Rank of 11, and a European Rank of 2

This is the 2nd change to English Men with Gavin Evans having withdrawn earlier in the week due to injury and being replaced by Liam Pitchford, former 6 Nations Primary Schools Champion.

As he begins what promises to be a massively succesful Senior career, the ITTA is delighted to welcome Knight and his English team-mates to Dublin this weekend. With some promising young players of our own looking to test themselves against England's best, it promises to be a feast of table tennis. Why not come along to see Knight and all of the other top players from Ireland and the UK in action - Opening Ceremony is Friday at 5pm with play beginning at 5.30pm. Check out www.irishtabletennis.com for full match schedule.

These matches are sure to provide some of the best table tennis seen in Ireland this year, and we would encourage all table tennis fans to get out to DCU to support the Irish teams. DCU offers excellent viewing facilities and refreshments will be served in Zest Bar all weekend.
