Online Umpires Training Course

29 June 2020

The course will run on Tuesday evenings from 7-8 pm for 6 weeks. Each session will consist of 30 minutes of instruction on the rules and regulations, followed by 30 mins of discussion on the meaning and application of the instruction. At the end of the course there will be a live session, at a time and place to be agreed, consisting of a written exam and a practical session where participants will put their new skills into practice.

The course is aimed at two groups:

  • People new to umpiring, players, coaches, parents and those simply interested in Table Tennis. This group will be aiming at a qualification at the level of County Umpire.
  • Existing umpires at any level who are asked to do the programme as a refresher course, as part of their Continuous Professional Development. At the end of the programme participants may opt for an examination at their existing level or to be tested at the next level up.

One of the difficulties the Association has had in the past has been getting people to travel to the venue for training. Doing training virtually does away with most of that.

Table Tennis needs Umpires to be run in a fair and efficient way, please make this small contribution to the sport in Ireland.
