Provisional suspension of ITTF activities

20 March 2020

Following the WHO declaration on 11th March that COVID-19 can be characterized as a pandemic, different Governments around the world have imposed travel restrictions on or through their territories, airlines are reducing their routes and public gatherings / social activities are being prohibited to different extents. After analysing the situation carefully, and ahead of the ITTF Executive Committee meeting to be held on-line on Monday 16th March, the ITTF EC has decided today as follows:

From Monday 16th March the ITTF shall provisionally suspend all international events, that had been due to start between the above date and the end of April 2020. In essence that will mean all ITTF sanctioned events, High Performance and Development activities and ITTF Foundation activities. At the same time, we strongly recommend to the affiliated Continental Federations
and Recognized Regional Organisations to act in the same way. The ITTF asks the ITTF Officials and Staff to defer “non-essential” travel. We also recommend meetings take place electronically where possible.

The ITTF will keep its policy to ensure health of our athletes, coaches, officials and fans is our main priority, while always consulting with reputed institutions such WHO, IOC and National and Regional Health organizations in any measures needed to be implemented. The Executive Committee will hold the planned emergency meeting on Monday 16th March to discuss the situation further and an announcement will be made next week regarding the ITTF World Tour Hong Kong and China Opens.
