Table Tennis Ireland appoint new  Para coach for standing para players

Table Tennis Ireland is delighted to confirm Gavin Maguire as the new Para Coach for Standing Para Players commencing March 2017. This is a new position working alongside Ronan Rooney, the current High-Performance National Coach.

This new role funded by Table Tennis Ireland is in line with their commitment to further develop Para Table Tennis In Ireland.

Gavin will now set his sights on qualifying as many players as possible for the Tokyo Paralympics in 2020.

As one of Ireland’s top players Gavin has recently been building coaching experience, both home and abroad.  His playing and coaching experience will be of enormous benefit to young, rising para players.

In his new role Gavin will be responsible for the small squad of standing para players (classes 6 to 11) who have targeted Tokyo 2020 qualification as their goal.  Gavin’s role will primarily involve

Selection of the squad according to a set of criteria based on performance and potential
Organising, managing and coaching squad Training sessions.
Acting as a mentor and advisor for the squad members.
Monitoring the progress of all squad members.
Broadening the Squad with new Talent
