ULSTER OPEN - enter here

Wales’ Charlotte Carey, playing full-time and based in Sweden, has confirmed her entry to this year’s Ulster Open in Lisburn and looks to be hot favourite for the 2017 title.   Last year’s winner Rebecca Finn (Glenburn TT Club), who had wins over Ashley Givan and Claire Heller (Dun Laoghaire TT Club) on her way to the title, will also compete and will be hoping for another singles title.   Young 11 year old Sophie Earley (Ormeau TT Club), fresh from strong performances in Europe, will feature strongly in the Junior and Cadet Singles, and will also pose difficulties for players in the Women’s Singles!

Meanwhile the Men’s Singles will feature many of Ireland’s top players - including Paul McCreery, Gavin Maguire, Owen Cathcart and Ryan Farrell. McCreery, Maguire and Cathcart currently compete for Ormeau in the British Premier League, along with Ashley Robinson (who also plays professionally out of Sweden) - and are unbeaten in their first two matches.  Unfortunately Robinson and Glenburn’s Zak Wilson cannot compete in the Open this year due to their professional Club commitments.  The Irish squad recently won promotion in the Euro Qualifiers, with Robinson, McCreery and Maguire then competing in the Challenge Division at the European Championships in Luxembourg.    It was there that Paul McCreery scored a fantastic win over highly world-ranked Sam Walker in the match against England - one of his best ever performances.  We should see sparks fly from the last 16 matches rounds right through to the final.

The Ulster Open, now encompassing the Ulster Junior Open, caters for all age groups, with the Junior including from Under 11 through to Under 21, Masters (over 40), and Disability events, all to be played from Friday 24th to Sunday 26th November.

Table Tennis Ulster is indebted to Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council for their continuing support, without which it just would not be possible to stage such an event.
